Relive 20 Years of First Person Shooters in 7 Minutes
French gaming site NoFrag has created a video compilation of the evolution of first person shooters from 1992 to 2011. The video illustrates a remarkable journey over the past 20 years in terms of graphics and gameplay.
The YouTube video page is already flooded with “Why isn’t [insert game name] included?!” comments, but NoFrag states that they wanted to represent each year with only one game. Some key favorite titles, such as Halo and Call of Duty, are therefore not included in the compilation. The video also skips a few years, although a complete list of games for each year is available at NoFrag‘s website.
As it stands, the video includes gameplay footage from the following titles:
Wolfenstein 3D (1992)
Doom (1993)
Dark Forces (1995)
Quake (1996)
Quake 2 (1997)
Half-Life (1998)
Quake 3 (1999)
Project I.G.I. (2000)
Return to Castle Wolfenstein (2001)
Battlefield 1942 (2002)
Deus Ex: Invisible War (2003)
Doom 3 (2004)
Battlefield 2 (2005)
Crysis (2007)
ARMA 2 (2009)
Metro 2033 (2010)
Battlefield 3 (2011)
