What is the DoorDash Pass?

DoorDash Pass, or how they dubbed it, DashPass, is the platform’s relatively new subscription system. It works like any other subscription service; you pay a monthly fee, and you can cancel it anytime. What does it give you?

The answer is free delivery on orders that cost $12 or more. DoorDash delivery fees aren’t too high, but they add up over time. If you use DoorDash regularly, it makes sense to subscribe, especially since it only costs $9.99 a month. Stick with us; there’s more to it.

DashPass 101

DoorDash was always thinking ahead. They launched DashPass in 2018 when most delivery services wouldn’t dream about cutting out delivery costs. Due to the current worldwide pandemic (spring 2020), everyone jumped on the bandwagon, namely Postmates, GrubHub, Uber Eats, and many others.

All of the mentioned food delivery services have discounted or free delivery now, even offering subscription plans similar to DashPass. For example, Postmates Unlimited and GrubHub+ cost the same as DashPass.

DashPass even kept the original subscription price intact for nearly two years. It is still $9.99 a month. With DashPass, you save approximately $3 or more per delivery. So, with only four deliveries a month, the subscription pays for itself.

On average, subscribers save $20 a month, not including the subscription fee. These savings can add up over time. They don’t sound like much, but the yearly savings can amount to $200 or more.

However, if you aren’t a regular DoorDash customer, you might not get much value out of DashPass. If you’re interested in subscribing, here is a step by step tutorial.

DoorDash Pass

Sign Up for DashPass (Free for Some Chase Card Owners)

Getting DashPass is simple if you follow the steps:

  1. Download the DoorDash app for customers if you haven’t already. Here are the links for Android and iOS
  2. Launch the app.
  3. Select the DashPass option. It’s at the top of the launch screen.
  4. Follow the on-screen instructions and sign up.

That was easy. Once you activate DashPass, it will cost you $9.99, though some users might get it for free. Right now, DoorDash has a deal with Chase Bank. If you have a Freedom, Sapphire, or Slate type of Chase credit card, you can use DashPass for free for up to two years.

The owners of the mentioned cards only need to enter their credit card info as the default payment option in the DD app (under Payment Cards in the Account menu) and activate DashPass. The official DoorDash website states that the activation should be automatic if you’re eligible, but double-check that to be sure.

Where Does DashPass Apply?

You should know that DashPass isn’t platform-wide. It means that you won’t save on all delivery fees ordering with DoorDash. Only certain restaurants fall under DashPass free delivery. They have a DashPass mark next to their name.

Don’t worry, though. Many major restaurant chains offer free delivery to DashPass subscribers. Some of them include White Castle, Chipotle, Chick-Fil-A, Fat Philly’s, Wendy’s, and the California Pizza Kitchen. Many others are on the list, too, so make sure to look for the DashPass mark before placing your order.

If you are not sure about using DashPass, look for promo periods when they offer this service for free or at a discounted price. DoorDash had such deals in the past, but at the time of writing, there aren’t any active promotions.

Would You Get DoorDash Pass?

Regular DoorDash customers can make good use of DashPass. However, occasional users won’t save too much with it. Finally, the choice is up to you to.

Colleen Gahan says:
Not really worth it because the restaurant/suppliers always charge more for their items when it is ordered through any delivery service. Why is it over $2- more for the same item just because it is being picked up by a third party. Order 6 items and it already costs more than a delivery fee or the subscription.

Until they supply the same items at the cost it would be for me to walk in and collect it subscription services such as this are moot.

Thundercat says:
It’s more because Door Dash charges them a fee to have that item on the menu. So they pass that fee onto you.
