Mirroring your Android device to your TV is a great way to let others see your device’s screen. Doing this without a Wi-Fi connection, however, isn’t as simple as it may seem.

That said, there are ways to get around the problem. In this article, we’ll show you how to mirror your Android device to your TV without a Wi-Fi connection.

Using the Built In Screen Mirroring for Smart TV’s

Some of the newest Smart TV’s come with the Screen Mirroring feature. This option connects to an associated device using Bluetooth, and thus doesn’t need a Wi-Fi connection to work. Not all devices support this, and both your TV and Android device must be Miracast compatible for this to work properly.

Our Recommendation

Major manufacturers such as Samsung, Sony, and LG, among others, have these features by default on their newest sets. If you want to find out if your TV supports Bluetooth, check the manufacturer’s specifications.

Once you know that both your devices support the feature, enable Bluetooth on both. Then proceed to the settings on your TV. Most Smart TV’s will have this choice under the Input menu. If you see either Bluetooth devices, or Screen Mirroring choose that and then find your Android device from the Screen Mirroring list.

Your Android device may prompt you that your Smart TV is trying to connect to it. Agree to the connection, then proceed to mirror both devices. While mirrored, any actions done on your phone will be reflected on your Smart TV.

If you wish to stop Screen Mirroring, you can choose to disconnect the feature either from your Smart TV or from the Android device.

Connecting Using a Bluetooth Dongle

If you don’t have the latest TV, or if your model isn’t Bluetooth capable, you may still take advantage of the feature through a Bluetooth dongle. A Bluetooth dongle connects through a USB port and sends out a Bluetooth signal that your Android device can then use to sync with the TV.

Once you’ve connected the Bluetooth dongle to your TV, enable the Bluetooth feature on your Android device. Wait for your Android to detect all the Bluetooth signals in the area, then when it finds your TV, choose Pair with device.

Connecting the Devices Using the HDMI Port

The simplest way to connect an Android and a TV is through cables. All of the newest TV models will have HDMI ports to connect to, and even the older models should have at least a USB port. You can use a USB to HDMI or a USB to USB cable to connect both devices together.

Remember that if you want to go this route, you’ll need to enable USB debugging on your Android device. If USB debugging is turned off, your device may just end up charging itself when connected to the TV.

To enable USB debugging, follow these steps:

  1. Open your phone Settings, then search for About Phone.
  2. Scroll down the menu to find the Build Number, then tap on it seven times.
  3. A prompt will appear that tapping further will enable Developer Options. This is a standard warning. Continue tapping in the Build Number.
  4. Once Developer Options is enabled, it will show as a separate menu under System Settings.
  5. Open Settings, System Settings, then Developer options.
  6. Scroll down until you find USB debugging.
  7. Tap on the switch to enable USB debugging.

Once USB debugging is enabled, you can now connect the Android device via cables to the TV. Screen mirroring should occur automatically once the two are connected. Depending on the length of your cable, this could be an ideal solution if you don’t have the Bluetooth feature for your TV.

If you wish to stop mirroring your screen, all you have to do is unplug the cable from any of your devices.

Has the usb debugging worked for everyone? It’s my only option at this point and I’m afraid to fiddle with developer options on my phone. I’m afraid I’m gonna mess something up

I had come across ‘the Tap Seven Times’ but noone had ever explained as well as you did, why..? I saw all these arguments about A20 = USB2.0, NO ITS NOT, YES IT IS, that is why you can’t connect from USB C – HDMI. So I have tapped 7 times and enabled debugging options so now all I need is the USB-HDMI adapter and HDMI Cable to try again. Can you reccomend one..?
