What Programming Does HBO Max Have
With so many streaming services now available, HBO had a challenging task to make HBO Max stand out. But they did a great job. HBO Max offers a lot of new, original content that isn’t available elsewhere.
Apart from the popular movies and TV shows available on all major streaming apps, HBO came up with Max Originals. In this article, we’ll explain everything you need to know about the service’s original programming.
HBO Max Original Programming
Before we dive into new releases, let us first explain that if you subscribe to HBO Max, you’ll have access to all HBO TV shows, as well as content from their parent company Warner Media. If you opt for this service, you won’t lose access to things you already have with HBO; you’ll get to see even more content.
HBO has a very ambitious plan for its new service, HBO Max. They plan to release 31 original series in 2020. But that’s just the beginning. Their goal for 2021 is even more impressive, and it includes 50 new, original series.
But what are all those series going to be about? Well, HBO Max’s original content will be divided into three categories, for three different audiences, according to their age. The first category is called “Kids & Family” and it’ll have a lot of cartoons as well as family-friendly shows. The second one is called “Millennials & Gen Z” and its content is made for teens and young adults.
Finally, there’s also the “Adult” category that will have more serious content. You can expect to see dramas that deal with important contemporary topics, as well as psychological dramas, satires, and dark comedies.
Kids & Family
HBO Max aims to provide content that’s entertaining and educational at the same time. Some of their new shows include The Fungies – a story about a mushroom family living on a prehistoric Earth in Fungietown. Your toddler will also enjoy watching a kids-friendly talk show, The Not-Too-Late Show With Elmo, whose guests are muppets.
There is also plenty of shows for older kids, 8-10 years old. They’ll love Craftopia, a modern kids’ show produced by famous YouTube influencer Lauren Riihimaki, also known as LaurDIY.
Apart from new releases, your kids can now enjoy watching your favorite TV shows from your childhood. HBO Max includes the best episodes of Sesame Street, updated with new preschool-relevant topics. You can also expect to see brand-new episodes of our favorite characters – Looney Tunes and Scooby-Doo!
There will be something for all generations – from cartoons for your toddler to those that the whole family can enjoy watching together. Don’t be surprised if you end up spending a lot of time browsing your favorite shows in the Kids & Family category.
Millennials & Gen Z
Millennials are an important target group for HBO Max, who work hard to provide content they’ll be excited about. Here are some of the shows we can’t wait to see:
- Gossip Girl 2.0 – Gossip girl is returning, and it’s more exciting than ever. Will the Gossip Girl manage to remain anonymous in on the era of Instagram and Snapchat?
- Generation – A story about teenage life, school, and all the struggles they have to go through. One thing that sets this show apart is that its creator and co-executive producer is an 18-year-old girl Zelda Barnz. Who could understand teens better than her?
- Love Life – In 10 episodes, Anna Kendrick leads us through a turbulent relationship, from the first message to the final break up.
- Raised by Wolves – This sci-fi series shows us what raising human kids on another planet looks like.
- Americanah – Based on a novel of the same name, this show explores the life of a Nigerian woman who leaves her home to find a new life in the US.
There are more than 30 brand-new shows for Millennials and Gen Z – and these are just some of them. As you can see, HBO Max covered all genres. From teen dramas, comedies, and love stories, to more serious content such as sci-fi and socially conscious productions.
Adult
Apart from Game of Thrones and True Blood, HBO Max surprised us by creating animated content for adults. You’ll love Close Enough, a family drama about all situations that happen in everyday life, with one exception. They often escalate into the least probable scenarios that are close to science fiction.
If you love political satire, you’ll love The Prince, but you’ll have to wait a while, as this show won’t be released until 2021. You can also expect a lot of documentaries, period dramas, as well as stand up comedies. Some of the content may be too violent or too realistic, so make sure your kids don’t browse the Adult section unsupervised.
HBO Max is an ideal choice for those who love Old Hollywood movies. Their vast library will allow you to tap into the world of old movies that are not easy to find today.
Something for Everyone
As you can see, HBO Max programming covers the interests of all generations. In addition to the impressive new releases outlined above, you’ll also be able to use HBO’s vast on-demand library to watch all your favorite movies and TV shows.
