The Best Xfinity Alternatives in 2022

Xfinity seems like a great internet provider. Owned by Comcast, it lets you enjoy a fast internet connection where you can do heavy downloading and uploading while streaming.

Speaking of streaming, what makes Xfinity one of the popular internet service providers today is that it also includes TV and home phone services.

And you can subscribe to such services for as low as $29.99. Compared to other internet providers, this is actually a pretty decent offer.

However, like other internet providers, Xfinity also has some drawbacks. One of which is that it keeps dropping. One of the main reasons is that the standard device that it provides you with isn’t actually not that great.

Yes, nothing is 100 percent perfect, but as an internet provider, you must ensure that your users are always connected, right?

Unfortunately, Xfinity is having problems with it. And it has become a bigger issue as many of its subscribers across the United States frequently experience it, which, of course, is a huge hassle.

Experts advise buying a separate device to improve such problems. However, this isn’t always an ideal option if you have a limited budget.

Another solution is that you switch to another provider instead. If you’re interested, here are some of the best alternatives for Xfinity in the market today.

Verizon Fios
Verizon Fios

Compatible With

IOS, Android

Verizon Fios is an internet, television, and phone service provider – pretty much like Xfinity. Instead of conventional cable or DSL, it uses fiber optic cable. Fiber Optic Service is what Fios stands for. Light travels significantly quicker over fiber optic lines than through copper or coaxial wires. It also has a lot more information on it.

Fios ensures lightning-quick speeds in this way. Because of this, you have reliable and stable internet. Another good thing about Verizon Fios is that it comes with a few plan options, so you can pick which speed suits you best at a price that you can afford.   If you need speeds to stream your favorite shows, browse the internet, and play music, its 300 Mbps plan suits you. This will only cost you around $39.99 a month.

If you want a faster connection, a 500 Mbps plan is for you. This is perfect for binge-streaming HD videos and more. This plan costs $64.99.   In addition to that, you can get access to Hulu, Disney Plus, and ESPN Plus. Verizon Fios also lets you pick the extras that you need. However, Verizon Fios is only available in limited areas, such as the following:

  • Washington
  • Baltimore
  • Silver Spring
  • Jersey City
  • Newark
  • Trenton
  • Bronx
  • Brooklyn
  • Buffalo
  • Flushing
  • Jamaica
  • New York
  • Staten Island
  • Syracuse
  • Philadelphia
  • Pittsburgh
  • Alexandria
  • Chesapeake
  • Richmond
  • Virginia Beach

So, you need to check first if it’s available in your location. Also, it’s a bit pricier than other providers. This is also due to the equipment that comes with your subscription. Nevertheless, considering its perks, it’s definitely worth spending on.

FreedomPop
FreedomPop

Compatible With

IOS, Android

Free and low-cost cellphone plans for call, text, and internet are available from FreedomPop. They don’t force you to sign a contract, so you can cancel at any time. These are just some of the main reasons why you should consider it as an alternative to Xfinity.

FreedomPop’s free service seems quite impossible, especially today when nearly nothing is free. Hence, many are skeptical about it. In fact, if you look up FreedomPop, one of the common search suggestions is questions about its legitimacy. So is it real or not, and if yes, how does it do it?

Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) is how FreedomPop provides its free service (VoIP). Because no additional hardware is required, this converts your voice into digital data, which is less expensive to transport and handle. If you spend the majority of your time on the internet, FreedomPop’s free plan is an excellent choice. However, their upper bounds are usually modest. You might be better off with one of their premium plans if you make more than a few calls, texts, or surf the web.

Unfortunately, not everything about FreedomPop is free. Some of its features may require you some extra fees. If you want to check your voicemails, for instance, you’ll have to pay an additional $2.49 a month. There are also other hidden fees that many users complain about. But to be fair, FreedomPop’s free service is already a huge help if you’re on a tight budget, which makes it another provider to factor in when choosing a substitute for Xfinity.

EarthLink
EarthLink

Compatible With

IOS, Android

EarthLink was a company that existed in the 1990s. It was one of the first internet service providers to offer unlimited internet access for a monthly price. However, before you could get online, you had to listen to the shrieking dial-up sound.   Today, EarthLink, of course, has improved. EarthLink provides a wide range of download speeds to customers in 48 states across the United States.

Furthermore, some of those plans are fiber-based. Fiber is superior to other internet connection types in terms of speed and reliability.   However, its plans can get a bit confusing as it varies depending on your location. For instance, in Las Vegas, Nevada, EarthLink offers plans that can go as fast as 15, 30, or 40 Mbps. But, if you’ll look into the plans that it offers in Jacksonville, Florida, only 12 and 24 Mbps plans are only offered.   The good news, though, is that such changes in internet plans are due to EarthLink teaming up with other internet providers (like CenturyLink, Frontier, Viasat, Verizon, and AT&T) in different states. This way, it can serve you better.

However, also because of this, EarthLink’s prices may tend to be higher than others. Moreover, it requires higher fees for installation and cancellation compared to other providers. If you’re on a budget, of course, this can be a huge turn-off. Overall, it’s still a great provider to consider. You just need to double-check the plans available in your location.

Spectrum
Spectrum

Compatible With

IOS, Android

Because of its availability, reliability, and consistent speeds, Spectrum makes an excellent internet service provider (ISP) that you can replace Xfinity with. This cable company is known for providing residential internet, television, and landline phone service, as well as statewide coverage. If you stick with Spectrum, you’ll have access to a variety of internet tiers to suit your needs.

Additionally, the ISP allows you to bundle your television and phone services for a double or triple-play discount. Spectrum doesn’t provide fiber, though. In spite of that, its upload and download speeds are comparable to those stated. Expect internet speeds of roughly 200 Mbps, if not greater, if you have a 200 Mbps Internet subscription.

Spectrum has exceptional reliability in addition to upload and download speeds that reach their full potential. Internet outages are uncommon, and when they do occur, Charter Communications responds rapidly to resolve the problem. That is what makes Spectrum a wonderful choice for demanding circumstances like working from home because of its dependability. The downside, though, is that it’s quite expensive.

Today, Spectrum offers a $49.99 per month plan. With this, apart from the internet connection, you may also enjoy Spectrum TV with more than 125 channels to choose from. And, of course, with great speeds, sharing, streaming, and gaming are a lot easier and more fun. This, however, is already its “cheapest” offer. But, if you factor in how reliable this provider can be compared to others, such a price is worth it.

Cox
Cox

Compatible With

IOS, Android

Cox Communications is a decades-old telecommunications company that provides dependable cable television and internet services. With more than 22,000 employees, Cox Communications services over six million customers nationwide. In addition to home use, Cox also provides internet services to underprivileged children through participation in the Classroom program Cable and EveryoneOn.org.

When it comes to its actual internet service, Cox offers a wide variety of high-speed internet packages, such as the following:

  • Cox Internet Starter 10: 10 Mbps for $29.99
  • Internet Essential 50: 50 Mbps for $39.99
  • Cox Prepaid internet service: 25 Mbps for $50
  • Internet Preferred 150: 150 Mbps for $59.99
  • Internet Ultimate: 500 Mbps for $79.99
  • Cox Gigablast: 940 Mbps for $99.99

And they are all available in 18 states across the country. Cox is a good option if you’re looking for a reasonable value on internet services but don’t need blazing-fast speeds. For about $30 per month, you can have 10 Mbps. For an extra $10, you may upgrade to 50 Mbps. Yes, 50 Mbps isn’t the fastest. But, if you’re only using the internet to check your email or social media accounts, then it’s already enough. Such a price is already pretty decent, as there aren’t a lot of providers today that can offer such plans at a low cost. All in all, it’s a great Xfinity alternative, especially if you’re looking for something within your tight budget. Of course, its numerous packages are a great plus as not many providers today can offer you many options to choose from.

CenturyLink
CenturyLink

Compatible With

IOS, Android

CenturyLink is America’s third-largest telecommunications company. In 37 states around the country, it provides internet, phone, and television. Although its fiber network is only available in select locations, it has both fiber and DSL.

Its fiber optic network is only available in ten cities. This, of course, is one of its drawbacks, so make sure to check if it’s available in your location before anything else. Also, note that you can self-install CenturyLink. This could save you a ton on installation costs. Don’t worry if you’re not that knowledgeable about it, as CenturyLink will send you a kit with instructions.

Another thing that makes it a great option is that it offers a “Price for Life” deal. This means you don’t have to worry about hikes in your bill.   This provider doesn’t require a contract, so you can cancel anytime. It has a low risk compared to other internet providers. What others complain about, though, is that its customer service isn’t quite good. Their service is slow. Because of this, canceling your subscription can sometimes be a hassle. Overall, CenturyLink is a decent option that can replace Xfinity, but it’s not our first pick.
