Teams Intelligent Recap Isn’t Working – 5 Fixes
Microsoft Teams is better than ever with its new AI features, like Intelligent Recap, which uses Copilot AI to essentially recap meetings and calls you have in Teams. It gives you a full overview of the meeting, lists key points, and even provides follow-up topic and question ideas. But none of that will be any use to you if Teams Intelligent Recap isn’t working.
Fix 1. Verify Your License and Intelligent Recap Access
Firstly, it’s important to verify that you actually have access to the Intelligent Recap feature. If you don’t, you won’t be able to access or use it, which could explain why Teams Intelligent Recap isn’t working for you.
Intelligent Recap is only for users with either the Copilot for Microsoft 365 license or the Teams Premium license. If you don’t have those or aren’t sure, then either upgrade your subscription or consult with your IT admin, if you’re using Teams for work.
Fix 2. Schedule Meetings in Advance
Another important point to note with Intelligent Recap is that it doesn’t work on every single Teams call or meeting. Specifically, it won’t work for channel meetings, instant meetings, or regular Teams calls. Instead, it only works on scheduled meetings. To schedule a meeting:
Step 1. Open Teams and click the “Calendar” button.
Step 2. Choose a date for your meeting, then press the “New meeting” button. Then enter the details of your meeting and click the “Send” button to send invites to all attendees.
Fix 3. Activate Transcription and Recording for Meetings You Want to Recap
As well as scheduling meetings, you’ll also want to make sure that transcription and recording features are turned on during those meetings. That’s the only way that you can create a full transcript which Copilot then uses to generate the Intelligent Recap. Only admins can do this. Here’s how:
Step 1. Open the Microsoft Teams Admin Center and log in.
Step 2. Click on “Meetings” then “Meeting policies.”
Step 3. Scroll to the “Audio & video” settings and toggle “Allow transcription” to the “On” position.
Step 4. Then, when you next start a meeting you want to use Intelligent Recap in, go to “More actions,” then “Record and transcribe,” and click “Record” to start recording.
Fix 4. Repair the App
If you’re still having issues with Teams Intelligent Recap isn’t working even when you’ve configured your meetings correctly, there may be some sort of bug or corruption in the Teams files. Repairing or resetting the app might fix it.
Step 1. Go to the Settings. To get there, just press the “Windows” key and the “I” key at the same time. Or you can click on “Settings” in the Start menu.
Step 2. Go to “Apps” then “Installed apps.”
Step 3. Look for Teams. You can just type it into the search bar to find it quickly. Press the three dots beside it and choose “Advanced options.”
Step 4. Scroll down to select “Repair” and see if that fixes the issue. If not, you can try “Reset” and then log back into Teams to check if Intelligent Recap works.
Fix 5. Uninstall and Reinstall Teams
Reinstalling Teams might be what you need to get features like Intelligent Recap working again. Here’s how it’s done.
Step 1. Open your device’s Settings using either the Start menu shortcut or by pressing “Windows” and “I” keys together.
Step 2. Go to “Apps” then “Installed apps.”
Step 3. Type “Teams” in the search box to find Microsoft Teams. Click on the three dots and then “Uninstall.”
Step 4. Once the uninstall is done, reinstall Teams from the official link or via the Microsoft Store.
