Solve Overheating Problem On Galaxy S8 And Galaxy S8 Plus

Tips on how to use Galaxy S8/S8 Plus to prevent overheating

Remove the case or cover every now and then – it is a minor detail, but the case can often be one reason of overheating; test and see what happens when you remove it, maybe your phone is better without it.

Avoid using it while charging – the temptation to keep using your smartphone even while charging is understandable; nevertheless, if you overuse it while the device is trying to charge its battery, you have even higher chances to make it overheat.

Refresh the fast cable charging feature – your Galaxy S8 or Galaxy S8 Plus comes with the fast cable charging feature activated by default; the option itself warns you that this may lead to overheating, so you can either choose to turn it off and give your smartphone more time to charge without using it in the meantime, or you can refresh the option by deactivating it and reactivating it after a couple of seconds (to do so go to Settings >> Battery >> Fast Cable Charging >> and switch its toggle On – Off – On).

All you have to do is to go to Settings >> Battery >> Battery Usage >> MORE >> Optimize Battery Usage >> once in here, tap on All Apps and make sure all apps have this feature active.

Solutions for the overheating problem on Galaxy S8 and S8 Plus
As you can imagine, the tips from above are meant to work as preventive measures. If, for whatever reasons, you ended up dealing with overheating problems, you should consider one of the following solutions:

Initiate a soft reset of the device

When you perform a soft reset, you are automatically turning off all the apps running in the background. You free up some memory and you give the device the chance to cool down since it no longer needs to use as many resources as it did before. The process is simple and will not lead to losing any kind of data, so initiate it with confidence. After that, carefully monitor the device and see if it continues to heat.

Perform a software update

If you don’t have a habit of running the latest software updates as soon as they become available, this could be a cause of your current problems. Wait until it scans and select Update Now to run the latest software version. If you’re running on mobile data you will be notified and you can choose to make the software update download with your mobile data plan or to connect to a Wi-Fi network, if you have one at hand.

Check the third-party apps in Safe Mode

If you’re still having battery problems with your Galaxy S8 or Galaxy S8 Plus even after a software update, you can suspect that you are using a faulty app. You can easily check this by letting the smartphone run in Safe Mode for a couple of hours. If the battery works perfect in this running mode, you can be sure that it was a third-party app because these apps don’t run in Safe Mode. Tap on the Power button;
Hold the Power off until the Reboot to Safe Mode option will appear on the screen;
Select it and wait for the device to restart;
It will turn back on in the Safe Mode, where you can keep it for several hours or days and see how it goes.

Initiate a factory reset

The factory reset will erase everything on your Samsung Galaxy S8 or Samsung Galaxy S8 Plus. From stored data and settings to bugs and glitches. That’s why it is so effective and that’s why you should never initiate it without creating a backup of your photos, videos, music, files or whatever other important things you have in there.

After that, follow these steps:

Swipe down the Notification shade from the top of the screen;
Tap on Settings;
Select Personal;
Select Backup and Reset;
Tap on Factory Data Reset;
Use the Reset Device option;
Type in the required PIN or password to prove that you are the owner of the device and that you are entitled to do a factory data reset;
Select Delete All and wait for it to finish.

Once the phone restarts, you will have to configure it from scratch. If you no longer have overheating problems, you can restore your backup and that was all. But if the problem persists, you really need to take it to an authorized service as it might need a battery replacement.
