Apple iPhone 8 And iPhone 8 Plus: How To Fix After it's Been Dropped in Water

Apple has recently released the new iPhone 8 series. This model is one of the highest ranking and top-performing smartphones so far. It is packed with awesome features and class. And it also costs a lot of money. However, the iPhone 8 and 8 Plus was not manufactured to be water-proof. Dropping it into the water could have cataclysmic consequences. What should you do?

You can do great damage to your Apple iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus is by dropping it into the water. Thankfully, your water damaged smartphone can be restored and fixed if you act quickly. You have a couple of options to save it from permanent damage. By following the instructions below, you will have the best chance of saving your iPhone 8.

Saving Your iPhone 8 From Water Damage

Before intuitively turning on your phone to check for damage, be sure to read these instructions carefully. Turning it on immediately is the worst thing you can do. Here are the things you should do.

Power Down

Turn off your device or keep it off. Shutting down your smartphone will help protect from short-circuiting in the hardware. You can instantly shut down your iOS-based device by removing the battery.

Remove Water

Try shaking, tilting or blowing air into the iPhone 8 or iPhone 8 Plus to remove as much water out it if possible. By removing the water you can prevent any more damage that can happen to your device.

Remove Case and Battery

The best way to help fix your water damage cell phone is to open the case and get air into the interior of your phone.

Let it Dry

It is vital to let the device dry first before turning it on. It should help reduce the amount of damage by speeding up the process of getting rid of the water on your phone. The following may help in getting your phone dry faster:

  • Open Air. We compared the water absorption of eight different materials (including silica gel and rice.) None of these materials were as effective as leaving the device in an open space (such as a countertop) with good air circulation.
  • Instant couscous or instant rice are acceptable substitutes for silica. In our tests, these absorbed water much faster than conventional rice. Instant oatmeal works too, but makes a mess of your phone.
  • Silica Gel.The best common drying agent is silica gel, which can be found in the pet aisle of your grocery store as “crystal” style cat litter.

Assess Water Damage on Your iPhone 8

After your smartphone has dried, attempt turning on and seeing if it functions normally. One of the several tests for this includes charging the battery to see if it holds a normal charge. You can also sync your device to your Mac or Windows computer to see if your device will respond for you to recover data from it. You can also try replacing the old battery with a new one to see if the new battery will work correctly.

If all of those methods do not fix your water damaged iPhone 8 or iPhone 8 Plus, you can still sell your broken water damaged cell phone. Remember to keep your SIM card and SD cards as these contain important information like contacts and other sorts of data that can be valuable and save you time when getting a smartphone.
