What’s better than music? Not much really. Even for those who don’t count music as a transcendent experience, it’s a powerful tool when it comes to our moods, workout pace, and memories. Often, we’re reminded that humans are visual creatures, but we’re also incredibly auditory. In fact, we probably consume more content through our ears, than just with our eyes. But that wasn’t always the case.

No wonder we’re always trying to improve on the way we listen to music. From records to cassettes, to CDs, and downloads, now we’re finally at the age of streaming. What better and easier way is there for our ears to be constantly packed with sounds? Well, who knows, maybe we’ll find out soon? As for now, streaming is pretty amazing.

What Is Spotify?

Your friend has been telling you about an awesome song in that superhero movie. Odds are, you’ll find it on Spotify. That’s because Spotify is a well-known digital music streaming service with a huge library of sounds. It also offers podcasts and an entirely separate space for those trying to become music artists and need an outlet for their work.

How to Download Spotify

You might be content with the web player and opt-out from the app version, but in case you need your music and podcasts handy, you can download the app here and here. Like with pretty much everything you can download or stream online, you can have the free version, or you can go premium. When you download Spotify for your device and are about to create an account, you might pause to think whether the membership is worth it or not. The free plan gives you the same 50 million songs that are available on the premium, but without the ads and with unlimited skips. Running from the advertisement is next to impossible in our timeline, so it’s more a matter of what you can live with. Spotify also offers the offline version for premium users and the best possible music quality. But, there’s another nice nugget of a feature available to all Spotify users –a sleep timer.

Dozing Off

This is a bigger deal than it might seem at first. If you were using Spotify before this feature was introduced, you might have wondered how to automatically turn off Spotify. There are a few reasons why having this option matters, like saving some battery life and not having your phone on for longer than needed. But there are other reasons too. The “sleep” part in the sleep timer offers us a clue. Perhaps the sleep timer feature is a godsend because you fall asleep to music, or a podcast, and you want to be able to control how long it stays on for. The quality of our sleep is hindered by many things, and being exposed to noises is a part of it. So, even if falling asleep to soothing music or a voice from a podcast benefits you, it’s probably not a great idea to have Spotify running all night.
