The Best No-WiFi Offline Kid and Toddler Games on Android

Traveling any distance with children can be a challenge. They are easily bored, can get noisy and frustrated quickly and generally need more attention than a harried parent can give at that time. There are other times when putting a child in front of a screen for a little while is well worth it, I’m sure you can think of a few. That’s why I put this page together of some of the best no-WiFi required children’s games on Android to keep your child occupied for a while. That’s right you can set them playing these without an internet connection.

Whether it’s a road trip, a waiting room, on the bus or train or something else, the challenge of keeping a child entertained has been something we have all had to contend with. Until recently, we didn’t have the advantage of technology to do the entertaining for us. I for one, am grateful of the help and I’m sure you are too!

Here are what I think are some of the best no-WiFi children’s games on Android. There should be something here for children of all ages.

Highlights Shapes – Shape Sorting & Color Mixing

Highlights Shapes – Shape Sorting & Color Mixing is an app for young children that teaches colors, shapes, patterns and more. It’s a very gentle game that can teach as well as entertain and can help develop problem solving, critical thinking and many other useful skills.

You’re walked through the game by an animal friend and have to solve puzzles by matching shapes, colors and patterns. The graphics are simple but the gameplay is perfectly balanced for young minds. They will need precision though as the demands are exacting but entertaining. The game is free and contains in-app purchases.

Minecraft – Pocket Edition

Minecraft – Pocket Edition could be the only no-WiFi children’s game on Android you ever need. It’s an amazing game that offers the freedom to explore and create to your heart’s content and is one of the best games ever created. It doesn’t look all that much with its 8-bit graphics but the gameplay, charm and character soon overcome that and your children will be playing for hours.

The interface is very simple yet the game has surprising depth, especially in the crafting. It is child friendly and suitable for ages 7 upwards. You can play online or offline and spend hours exploring dynamically created worlds while building and crafting literally anything you want. The game costs money but is well worth every cent for entertainment value.

Once Upon a Tower

Once Upon a Tower is suitable for ages seven and up and is a lovely little game. It’s a neat take on a fairytale where the prince who was coming to rescue you gets himself killed and you, the princess, have to take matters into your own hands. You do that by using the prince’s hammer to solve puzzles, escape rooms, kill bad guys and generally work your way out of the zone.

The graphics are cartoony, the action is stylized and perfectly suitable for its audience. The levels contain powerups and collectibles and the game keeps on giving. The game is free and contains in-app purchases.

Candy Crush Saga

Candy Crush Saga is a classic and probably something your child has already played on Facebook. This is the mobile version that is much the same only purely on a mobile device that can be played without WiFi. This is a seriously addictive game with apparently over a trillion levels played since its launch.

The game is slick and colorful and easy to get to grips with. The graphics are basic but bright and the action is relentless yet well-paced. It’s a game suitable for all ages. I know kids that play it and grandparents that love it. The only thing you have to watch is the in-app purchases. They can become essential in certain situations so make sure you lock down your account before letting your kids loose. The game is free and contains in-app purchases.

LEGO Ninjago: Shadow of Ronin

LEGO Ninjago: Shadow of Ronin is a Lego game that builds on the huge popularity of the brand and its many, many games. All of the Lego games are well worth loading onto your child’s device but this one stands out. Ninjas are cool, the game includes exploration, ties into the Ninjago TV series and includes vehicles, environments and gameplay that appeals to children.

All of the fun in LEGO Ninjago: Shadow of Ronin is child-friendly and the game is fine for children aged 7 and up. The graphics are detailed and very colorful, bad guys are varied and the entire experience is interesting and should keep your child entertained for hours. The game costs money but doesn’t have ads.

Those are what I think are some of the best no-WiFi children’s games on Android. Got any other suggestions? Tell us about them below if you do!
