The Best Places to Watch Game of Thrones Online
With season eight almost upon us (April 15 2019), now would be a good time to catch up with the series, rewatch every episode and marvel at just how much you missed first time round and how young everyone looks in season one. This page contains some of the best places to watch Game of Thrones online so you’re fully up to speed in time for season 8.
You don’t need torrents to watch Game of Thrones. There are networks wanting in on the cash cow that is GoT and will be showing the entire seasons 1 to 7 over the coming weeks. If you want to watch the TV show from the beginning, you need to get started as at the time of writing, you have just under six weeks to go until the release of season 8.
Even after the release, the series isn’t going anywhere as it has been a surefire hit for HBO.
Where can you watch Game of Thrones online?
First off, while not online, some venues in New York have taken Game of Thrones and run with it by running special nights with dinner, drinks and an episode or two of GoT on large screens. This page in the Metro lists a bunch of places to go and eat dinner out while getting your GoT on. If I lived there, this is how I would do it!
For the rest of us, online has us covered.
HBO Go
HBO Go has been running a while now and has proven itself a worthy subscription given the quality and quantity of programming on the service. For $15 a month, you can stream all seasons of Game of Thrones as well as many other TV shows, movies and other content.
As well as Game of Thrones, you can watch Westworld, True Detective, The Sopranos, Sex and the City, True Blood, Six Feet Under and a ton of other content. Some of these shows are available elsewhere but all are here.
Amazon Video
Amazon Video is a more expensive way to watch Game of Thrones but you can still do it. At around $3.99 an episode or $9.99 per season, you can watch each in full HD on the Amazon service. They have all episodes and all seasons and you can pick and choose which you want to watch.
If you buy Amazon Prime with HBO at $14.99 a month, you can watch all of the series for free which is a little more palatable if you’re already a user or planning to be. This is a much more sensible way of accessing the show.
iTunes
iTunes also has Game of Thrones. If you’re an Apple user anyway, you won’t mind paying the $96.99 to unlock all seven seasons to watch on your iDevice. There doesn’t seem to the be option to buy individual seasons or shows or any discount for anything as far as I can tell.
I would venture that the iTunes version would only be suitable if you wanted to watch and keep the show and didn’t have access to, or didn’t want an HBO Go or Amazon Prime subscription.
Hulu
Hulu has a subscription that includes HBO as part of its lineup. It costs from $40 a month and has HBO and Cinemax as part of the deal. You will be able to binge on Game of Thrones as much as you like before season 8 this way. If you subscribe, you will also gain access to HBO2, HBO Family, HBO Latino, HBO Comedy, HBO Signature HD, HBO Zone.
As Hulu is a primary subscription service, having the HBO option makes perfect sense. It’s not much extra and offers all of the HBO programming we know and love.
PlayStation VUE
PlayStation VUE offers HBO as part of its service too. It’s a $15 a month option and doesn’t actually need a PlayStation to view content. You can view on many devices including web browser so it isn’t only for gamers. The channels is showing a bunch of the more popular shows as well as the full seasons of Game of Thrones.
If you’re a gamer anyway, PlayStation Vue makes sense. If you’re not, it’s the same price as some of these other options so may not offer the same value.
DirecTV Now
DirectTV also has HBO as an optional channel on the service and costs $17.99 a month. It is also occasionally included in offers for as little as $5 extra on top of your bundle price so can work out quite cheap. As DirecTV Now has a huge raft of channels and is a competitor to Hulu, it is a very viable option for cord cutters in general, not just for watching GoT.
If you’re in a region where DirecTV Now is offered, it is an option well worth exploring.
