May the 4th Be With You: The Best Star Wars Games of All Time
4. Star Wars: Shadows of the Empire (1996)
Platforms: Nintendo 64, Windows
LucasArts went big with Shadows of the Empire, releasing a novel, soundtrack, comic book series, and action figures in addition to the heavily marketed game. Set between The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi, the game put the player in control of mercenary Dash Rendar, as he helps the main characters rescue Princess Leia from the lair of the evil Prince Xizor. Players get to fight in the Battle of Hoth, battle Boba Fett and IG-88, fly swoop bikes through the streets of Mos Eisley, and fight in space while piloting the Millennium Falcon-like mercenary ship Outrider. The PC version of the game played and looked better than the N64 edition, but both gave the player a chance to experience the mystery surrounding the time between Empire and Return of the Jedi while enjoying an excellent original soundtrack.
