The Best TeaTV Alternatives

There’s been a significant uptick in the number of streaming apps that are being released. This comes as no surprise as networks are struggling to keep the viewers and are thus being pressed into less than optimal contracts with distributors.

TeaTv is a relative newcomer to the scene but it seems to be doing really well. However, not everyone’s happy with it. Their selection is quite good and movies are available in HD quality. But users often complain about the incessant stream of ads that makes it all but impossible to enjoy a movie. If you’re one of those users, you’re in luck. Below are some great alternatives to TeaTv.

Kodi

Kodi is an open-source and free media center that allows users to store and access almost any media content. It was made for living room use and it does a good job of replacing a set-top box. It can stream and record live TV but it doesn’t come with any on-demand content. However, since it’s an open-source platform, users can get access to movies and shows through other means. It’s also available on all the major operating systems.

kodi

The real strength of Kodi is in its add-ons. They range from weather apps and screensavers to free versions of almost all of the popular streaming channels. The list includes YouTube, Crackle Fox, and Animal Planet, among many others.

Kodi itself is pretty safe to use, but you should be careful with the add-ons. Add-ons aren’t quality controlled and may cause stability issues. Kodi’s forums are full of active members that will point out suspicious ones.

Popcorn Time

This is one of the most popular alternatives to subscription-based streaming services. The developers seem to be very passionate about the project as they are constantly updating the app. It’s available for Windows, Android, OS X, and even Linux all from the same website.

popcorntime

It’s not a traditional streaming app, rather a BitTorrent client with an integrated media player. It allows the users to torrent movies and TV shows and to watch them through its player. It’s extremely easy to use to the point that it has been compared to Netflix for its accessibility. All you need to do is pick a movie or show, click play, and pick the stream resolution.

If that all sounds too good to be true, it actually might be. The app has seen a fair share of legal issues throughout the years. It has been taken down multiple times and has gone through several iterations. It seems stable at the moment of this writing, but it’s hard to say if that will last.

Netflix

No list of streaming services would be complete without mentioning the king. Netflix continues to be the service with the highest ratings and most viewers, and there are no signs of stopping or slowing down. Now, it is a subscription-based service. If that’s not the kind of alternative you were looking for, maybe you should reconsider.

Netflix isn’t free but the content and service are more than worth the subscription fee. It has a massive selection of movies, it’s available on most operating systems and it’s completely ad-free. At the very least, try their one free month before you decide it simply isn’t for you.

Streamio

Streamio is another relative newcomer but it has made waves as a solid streaming platform. It comes with a decent selection of TV shows and movies, and it’s very similar to Kodi in that it allows users to download add-ons and plugins. Streamio taps into various sources to get its media content and saves all the data on the cloud.

streamio

It could very well be the best streaming platform out there, if you put some work into it. The right add-ons can make it very user-friendly and give it access to tons of content. However, it does take some time to find and install them. It’s completely legal and does a good job of aggregating media but you won’t find many new releases on Streamio.

Free Streaming Isn’t What It Used to Be

These are some of the best alternatives to TeaTv. There’s no perfect streaming platform but one of these should give you what you’re looking for. If you’re not totally committed to the idea of free streaming, you can’t go wrong with Netflix. Then again, if it’s a pressing concern, any of the other ones listed is a great choice.

Streaming platforms are slowly becoming the norm as they push aside the traditional broadcast media. With most large networks offering increasing amounts of their content through streaming servers, it’s only a matter of time before the cable goes away for good.
