How to Change your Avatar in the ClassDojo App

ClassDojo is an app that brings teachers, students, and parents together in an online learning environment. With that said, although parents are a vital part of this equation, the emphasis with ClassDojo still lies with teachers and students. After all, it is an education app.

One of the coolest things on ClassDojo is the avatars that each student can select and customize. However, teachers can also set their students’ avatars according to their preferences. Here’s how to change and customize the student avatars on ClassDojo.

The Three Main Ways

ClassDojo allows its users to change their avatars in three ways. Every single one of these methods is available on the website. With iOS and Android mobile/tablet apps, you can use only one of them. In any case, here are the three ways to change avatars in ClassDojo.

Use Pre-Created Avatars

It is the most basic method, available on iOS, Android, and desktop/web versions of the platform.

iOS and Android

Choosing a pre-created avatar for your students is almost identical on both iOS and Android devices. Simply open your class and tap the three-dot button in the upper-right corner of the screen. Then, go to Edit students. To the right of each student, you’ll see a pencil icon. Tap this icon and then tap Edit student.

Click the student’s current avatar, and you’ll see a menu pop up. Select the new avatar that you want to use. Finally, select Save and tap Done on iOS devices. On Android devices, tap the blue checkmark in the upper-right corner of the screen. Then select Done.

Desktop

Selecting pre-created avatars on ClassDojo desktop versions is a bit different. Start by opening your class. Then, navigate to Options and click Edit Class. Select the Students tab, and you’ll see a list of the students within that class. Select a student with the left click, and you’ll see a Select monster for [student’s name] window pop up. Select the avatar from the list. Finish off by clicking Done in the bottom-right corner of the window.

Let the Students Create Their Avatars

This option is available only on the browser version of the app.

To start, open your class. Then, navigate to the Portfolios tab and select Student login in the left part of the screen. Next, follow the on-screen prompts to choose the method your students will use to log in to their accounts. That will allow the students to create their accounts, and, in turn, their very own avatars.

Upload Your Images

This method is also available only on the browser/desktop app version.

Start by opening the class in question and then navigate to the Options button on the right side of the screen. Then, select Edit Class, followed by selecting the Students tab. Choose a student by left-clicking on his or her entry. In the pop-up box, click their avatar. Then, click ClassDojo Monsters and choose the Create new set option in the drop-down menu.

Name the custom avatar set for the classroom in question and click Create monster set. Now, click Upload Monsters and choose a file from your computer. Do this by either dragging and dropping the file or by selecting Choose File in your browser. When you finish adding images, click Upload. Once the upload is complete, select Save set.

The most basic way to select avatars for your students is by going with the pre-defined options. This method is available on all platforms. However, if you want to make things more interesting, check out the other outlined ways.

Which method will you use? Pre-made or custom avatars? Feel free to join in on the discussion in the comments below and add your opinion.
