How to Turn Off or Disable Plex News
Earlier this year, Plex introduced Plex News, a free service that adds curated news clips to a user’s Plex library. The new feature was intended to offer users yet another source for content and, because it displayed advertisements in between news clips, generate revenue for the company.
Unfortunately, Plex enabled the News feature for all users by default, and failed to provide a way to turn it off on clients that supported it. Many users liked Plex News, but those who didn’t were stuck with a “News” category taking up a slot on their Plex home screens.
Thankfully, Plex has now finally introduced a way to disable Plex News. Here’s how it works.
Disable Plex News
To disable Plex News, log into the Plex Web interface with your account. Click on your account picture in the upper-right corner of the screen and select Account.
On the next page, select Online Media Sources from the list of options on the left.
Click Edit next to the News section on the right and choose Disabled. The default option is Disabled for Managed Users, which displays Plex News for regular users in your Plex Home but not for managed users (limited accounts typically set up for children). The only other option is simply Enabled, which turns Plex News on for all users in your Plex Home regardless of type.
Once you’ve made your choice, click Save Changes. Now, head back to one of your Plex clients that supports Plex News and you’ll no longer see the News category listed (for some clients, you may need to restart the Plex app or log out and back in agani for the change to take effect).
Note that the option to disable Plex News is for your account only, meaning you and any users in your Plex Home. Shared users (“Friends“) must manage their own Plex News settings for their accounts.

That one did not have the option for me, even after checking for a server update. Going to app.plex.tv added the “Online Media Sources” option in my account settings.
