Does Disney Plus Allow for Multiple Users?
After a very successful launch complete with impressive rates of pre-ordered subscriptions, Disney’s new subscription service – Disney Plus – continues to rack up the numbers. The streaming service is Disney’s first big foray into making their catalog available for streaming in one location. For that reason, many users were drawn in by the extensive content offered on launch day.
With such a wide array of content aimed at children, Disney Plus users are wondering how many users the service supports, and how many profiles. In this article, we go in-depth about Disney Plus’s profile and user model.
Get Started By Signing Up
Before you start streaming your favorite Disney movies on Disney Plus, you’ll need to get signed up for an account. Start by signing up here for a free week trial, or get your favorite movies, shows, and sports for one low price by bundling Disney Plus, Hulu, and ESPN Plus right here!
Disney Plus User Limits
As with any other streaming service, people want to get as much value out of it as they can. In the case of Disney Plus, this ostensibly means allowing family members to stream it on various devices in a household. To that end, a standard Disney Plus subscription allows up to four devices to stream simultaneously.
Additionally, every account can have up to seven profiles set up on it for different people who use it. Profiles can be set up to exclude some content, which will make many parents happy. All of which you’ll learn about later in this article.
The idea of streaming on multiple devices inevitably invites the more philanthropic among us to give the gift of streaming to as many people in our life as possible. The team over at Disney isn’t blind to that fact and it seems that for the most part, they’re ok with it.
However, the service is meant to have one account per household or family unit. Gross deviations from that model might invite action from Disney. It’s not clear what that might be, but assurances were made that safeguards will be implemented to prevent abuse.
Disney Plus Profiles
Creating a profile for each person watching on a Disney Plus account is a good way to make navigating content easier and faster. For each profile, preferences will be tracked and recommendations will be made accordingly. It’s not mandatory, but it’s a useful practice, and there’s another benefit as well.
For households with children, users will be happy to know that Disney Plus allows for the setup of children’s profiles which filter out adult content.
To set up a profile for kids, the easiest way is to do it from a desktop browser. Open your browser and follow the steps outlined below.
- Go to the Disney+ website
- Log in with your Disney Plus account, or create one if you don’t have it yet
- In the top right, you can access a drop-down menu. From that menu, select “Add Profile”.
- You’ll be directed to a screen where you can select a picture and a name for the profile.
- Directly below the name field, you’ll see a slider labeled “Kid’s Profile.” Toggle the slider to the on position and finish setting up the profile.
There you have it. The profile you just created will be restricted to family-friendly content so you can allow kids to enjoy their favorite Disney content safely.
Can I Use My Account from Other Disney Streaming Services?
Disney Plus isn’t the entertainment giant’s only streaming service, it’s just the first to be exclusively populated with Disney content. Disney also owns Hulu and ESPN Plus, two other successful streaming platforms. Naturally, account holders of those two services have been wondering whether their subscriptions will extend to Disney Plus.
Sadly, the answer is no. Disney Plus subscriptions will operate independently of Hulu and ESPN Plus. However, as a part of the company’s very aggressive marketing scheme for Disney Plus, they’ll be offering a streaming bundle in which all three services are available for around $13. Considering that’s the price of Netflix’s most popular plan in the US, it’s easy to see that Disney is really bringing some value to the table with this bundle.
Additionally, the service is available for 12 months free to Verizon’s customers with an unlimited phone plan or a 5G home or Fios internet service. Overall, Disney is doing everything in its power to lock up a significant part of the market share and since these are all initial offers as is the current price, there’s no better time to become a Disney Plus subscriber.
More Users, More Fun
Disney Plus subscriptions allow for up to four streaming devices. Disney is well aware of the fact that people share accounts with friends and family groups so they’ll be willing to turn a blind eye to a degree. But there’s also some indication that it will be the first subscription streaming service that will eventually crack down on account sharing, though it’s not yet clear exactly how.
