How to Add Disney Plus to Your Roku

Disney Plus is an upcoming streaming app from Disney. That’s right, one of the world’s largest corporations has finally decided to jump into the world of streaming. Some of the devices that Disney Plus will include on its compatibility list are Roku and Roku TV devices. If you’re a Roku user or plan on buying one of their devices, you’ll want to know how they work with the upcoming Disney Plus service.

If you want to know what Roku devices Disney Plus will be on, how much it will cost, and what benefits you will get, you’ve come to the right place.

Get Started By Signing Up

Before you start streaming your favorite Disney movies on Disney Plus, you’ll need to get signed up for an account. Start by signing up here for a free week trial, or get your favorite movies, shows, and sports for one low price by bundling Disney Plus, Hulu, and ESPN Plus right here!

Will Disney Plus Be on Roku?

The short answer here is – yes! Roku devices were one of the first two to be announced as compatible with Disney Plus (PlayStation 4 was the other one). As long as your Roku device is capable of running the latest Roku OS version, there should be no issues with installing Disney Plus. These models include Roku 2700X, all the way up to Roku 4670X. When it comes to Roku smart TVs, all models will be supported.

If you own a device that isn’t receiving the latest Roku updates, you should still be able to download and use Disney Plus, but may experience certain issues involving certain channels. The oldest Roku model officially supported by Disney Plus dates way back to 2013, so you’re most likely good to go. To grab the app, navigate to the Roku Store on your device or head over to Roku’s web store here to add the app remotely.

The Price

Before moving on to the price, there’s an important factor to mention here. With Disney Plus, there are no offers for tiered streaming platforms. The same monthly price goes for every single user and everyone gets the same features/streams. The Disney Plus starting price is $6.99, which is more than their upcoming competitor, Apple TV Plus. But, Apple TV Plus doesn’t work on streaming devices, at least for now, so you definitely won’t be able to get it on your Roku or Roku TV.

Although the same price is quoted for all devices, Disney still claims that Disney Plus starts at $6.99. This likely means that there will be unique offers, packages, and bundles to choose from. For instance, Disney Plus has already announced an ESPN+, Hulu, Disney Plus bundle for $12.99 that will be available on the service’s release.

So, why don’t the other streaming services offer similar bundles? Quite simply, because they can’t. Disney is one of the largest corporations on the planet and, as such, has acquired many companies, including popular streaming services and networks, such as Hulu and Fox. Where Netflix owns no additional streaming service or network and can only stream, well, Netflix content, Disney can come up with unique, interesting, affordable, and, most importantly, attention-grabbing bundles.

Other Platforms

Although this may not be important for you, as a Roku user, let’s go through some of the other platforms that Disney Plus is going to be available on. First of all, all Apple TV boxes, iOS devices, as well as Macs, will support the Disney Plus app from the get-go. This goes the same for Android TV, tablets, and smartphones, as well as for Chromecast. And though it looked like Amazon might be left out of the fun, Disney announced prior to launch that Disney Plus would also come to Fire TV, alongside Samsung and LG televisions.

Perhaps most importantly, however, Disney Plus will be available on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. This is something Apple hasn’t discussed at all, so Disney Plus pretty much has the console gamers locked in, as well.

Disney Plus and Roku

Given the fact that the only streaming device that Disney Plus will work on is Roku, you can expect comprehensive design and support on the platform. Although certain items are missing from the compatibility list, it’s nice to know that at least the Roku users will be satisfied.

Are you excited to install Disney Plus on your Roku? Will you have to buy Roku in order to use it? Would you do so? Hit the comments section with your answers and feel free to ask any question that comes to mind.
