How to Add Your Echo Auto to Alexa App

Echo Auto is the most recent Echo release from Amazon. This product, however, is very special because it has been anticipated for so long – it is the device that brings Alexa to your car. Where most Echo devices are used for convenience, Echo Auto provides you with more safety on the road, allowing you to focus on what truly matters – driving safe.

Using the device and integrating it with Alexa is simple and straightforward. Here’s how to do it.

Requirements

The first thing that you need to think about when installing Echo Auto is whether you meet the necessary requirements. Don’t worry, they aren’t too wild and Echo Auto should work with the vast majority of vehicles.

First of all, you need a power source that you can plug Echo Auto into. This can be the regular car adapter input or a simple USB input. Either way, the dedicated cable with the adapter comes in the box so you don’t have to worry.

Secondly, Echo Auto needs to connect to your car’s radio in order to work. This can be done in one of two ways, either using Bluetooth 4.0 or higher or an AUX input on your radio. The auxiliary (AUX) cable is also included in the package.

Plugging It In

First, put the Echo Auto device on your dashboard. Ideally, the light line should be turned directly towards you, even though the device is capable of picking up your voice from any part of your vehicle.

Now, connect Echo Auto to the power source with the Micro USB cable and, depending on whether necessary, the provided adapter. Either use the supplied AUX cable to connect Echo Auto to your car’s radio or make sure that your phone’s Bluetooth is on.

Adding Echo Auto to the Alexa App

First, if you haven’t already, download the Alexa app from your phone’s dedicated store. If you already have the app, make sure that it is up-to-date.

Now, enter the app and tap the Devices icon. Then, tap the Plus icon. You’ll see a menu pop up and an Add Device option in it. Tap this option and select Amazon Echo. On the list that appears, tap Echo Auto. You’ll then see detailed instructions on the screen on how to properly set up the app.

Keep in mind that Alexa will require access to your phone’s location and microphone. This is necessary for using Echo Auto. Make sure that you allow the app to access these features. Worry not, because your phone will prompt you to confirm this. Once everything is properly set up, your Echo Auto device should be ready to use.

Adding Another User

Chances are that you aren’t the only one driving the car. Naturally, every Echo Auto can be connected to multiple phones, allowing multiple drivers to use the device seamlessly. To add another user to your Echo Auto, hold the Action button for around 8-10 seconds and you should see the sweeping orange light appear on the device. Now, repeat all the setup steps from above to add another user to your Echo Auto.

Now, whenever one of the registered users drives the car in question, Echo Auto will connect to their phone.

Have a Safe Trip!

Clearly, the installation process for Echo Auto isn’t complicated. As long as you meet all the requirements and do things as instructed, Echo Auto should work with your vehicle. Keep in mind that you need either Bluetooth 4.0 or an AUX input on your radio in order to use Echo Auto.
