Explore augmented reality with this selection of apps!
You can experience augmented reality like never before with the new Merge Cube from Merge VR. It is a real treat for just $10.99. Although this platform is fairly new, there are a few apps we recommend. Below are some of the third-party or branded apps that may be worth your while.
Haven’t got your hands on a Merge Cube yet? Get one from here.
Tiltball
Do you recall the game Teeter that came pre-installed on HTC phones? It is one of the first few games that showcased the wonder of gyroscopes in gaming. The gameplay consisted of a ball where the player tilts the device to get it through the maze and get to the goal.
Well, this game, Tiltball, is Teeter in three dimensions. Using the Merge Cube, Tiltball allows you to see a 3D cube consisting of mazes where you can tilt the cube and navigate the ball through the maze into the goals. These mazes consist of traps and bridges and other exciting puzzle factors. You will not have to press buttons on the screen or do anything else aside from moving and tilting the actual cube in your hands. This is an augmented reality at its finest and can easily be enjoyed by adults and kids equally.
This game is a good starting point to showcase the potential of Merge Cube. It offers a version of a game that is not new to users while giving them a different kind of experience this time. Tiltball works smoothly most of the time, but only falls a little behind when the cube is moved too quickly. Another good thing to note would be that covering too much of the cube will revert the cube to its mundane view and pause the game.
You may download TiltBall from Google Play for free. So, if you’re planning to buy the Merge Cube, make sure to try this simple yet fun game.
Defused!
If you have played the game Bop It!, the concept of Defused! will not be new to you. If not, don’t worry the aim of the game is simple. Disarm the bomb before it explodes. You can do this by using the different mechanisms provided by the game and by completing different tasks.
For example, in the first round, the player will be asked to activate the number 7 switches. A timer will start and the player will need to find the faces of the cube with the number 7 on them. He or she will then activate it by tapping on screen or by pressing the VR button. The next challenges will not be as easy, of course, but you get the drift.
Defused! is interestingly one of those games that get you frustrated and makes you enjoy at the same time. Its gameplay allow for a good replay value since the challenges are constantly changing, allowing for interesting expansion of the game. So, if you already have a Merge Cube and not sure what to do with it, try Defused!. Who knows, maybe more features will come in the future. Maybe a multiplayer where players can pass the bomb to each other to help diffuse it? You can find Defused! on Google Play.
Elemental Order
One highly recommended game for the Merge Cube is Elemental Order. It is a memory game that uses a Tron-like Holocron cube and flashes different color sequences on each side. You will just need to turn remember the sequence and enter it by turning the cube to the correct side and pressing the screen or the headset button. Don’t worry, it’s much easier when played in actual. Difficulty increases over time and it really pushes your memory to the limit.
The only issue with Elemental Order is that it makes use of a stand to allow the players to use both hands while playing. This isn’t a problem since the Merge Cube comes with a stand upon purchase, but it is inconvenient when trying to play in places such as inside a vehicle while traveling. You may find and download Elemental Order on Google Play.
CyberCube
One other game you need to try with your Merge Cube is Cybercube. It is a fast-paced timed puzzle game. Your system has been hacked and the only way you can save it is by using your cyber cube to battle the malicious code. The gameplay involves matching symbols on the sides of the cube on incrementing speed and difficulty. This game tests your endurance and response time, so if you have fast hands and like to test them, Cybercube is for you.
It is recommended that this game be played using a headset or Merge Goggles. Spinning the cube on one hand and holding a phone in another could be messy and inconvenient. It would also slow you down while playing and may affect your scores. Cybercube is a fun, heart-racing game that you need to try on your Merge Cube. You can find and download CyberCube on Google Play.
AR Kitten
This one app is a little different from the rest. AR Kitten is not a game, but a pet simulator. It is ultimately like a tamagotchi cat on your Merge Cube that you need to feed, pet, and play with to keep alive. You can also interact with the cube in different ways, such as shaking it or stroking the kitten using it as your hands. AR Kitten is cute and fun, and simply a way of enjoying your Merge Cube in a laid back fashion.
AR Kitten also contains a minigame where you are able to collect gems to spend on clothes and other accessories for your kitty. The app excels in making use of the cube’s physical space, making an example of apps with good code. If you are stoked about meeting your new virtual pet with AR Kitten, you can download it from the Google Play Store.
Worthy Mention
Another worthy app mention is Holocube. Although it did not make the top five apps to use on Merge Cube, it deserves a second look. This app centers around our own blue planet, showing Earth in different states. You may add longitude or latitude lines or change the weather and flow of water. It changes while you spin the cube on your hands as it emulates the Earth’s spinning. This marvelous app is still in early access, but you should definitely take a look at it.
