The Best Free CD Label Making Software

If you burn files or music on CDs, it would be good to be able to sort them in some way. You can use a CD label designer tool to customize and print not just labels but covers and booklets.

And many of them are available for free. You can print your covers and labels in just a few clicks.

The only thing to keep in mind is that burning CDs and DVDs has become less popular. And for that reason, there seem to be fewer and fewer software apps for making CD covers. Before you download one, make sure to check if it’s compatible with your computer. There are some that you can’t use on newer systems.

The following are some of the best free CD cover designers that you can find online.

Nero Cover Designer

Nero Cover Designer

Nero Cover Designer is one of the most popular apps for this, partly because of the widely used and highly capable Nero disc burner program. Since Nero Cover Designer is synced with Nero, you can make a list of all the files you’re burning and print it as a label.

You can choose from a bunch of templates that can help you make attractive labels, covers, inlays, and booklets in a few minutes. There are templates for DVD cases, CD cases, multi-boxes, slim packs, and more.

Get this: you can also make business cards besides. All the necessary tools are there, such as image editing and lots of fonts.

The software is free, although you need to have Nero 12 multimedia to use all the features. It is compatible with the latest versions of Windows.

Ronyasoft CD DVD Label Maker

Ronyasoft Label Maker probably has the largest selection of templates for both labels and covers. You can choose anywhere from standard covers to paper sleeves and origami covers. Just choose one of the premade templates and add text and an image.

If you’re burning an audio disc, the tool will look for metadata to make an accurate track list. Also, if you like to add a creative touch, you can insert additional text, shapes, and images (with image effects).

The app has a template designer that allows you to make custom-sized covers and labels. You’ll be able to make labels for Nintendo Wii, PlayStation 4, and other non-standardized disc shapes and cases.

The app supports label papers such as PressIt and most printers. It is free and works with Windows XP, Vista, 7, 8, and 10.

Meritline EZ Label Xpress Lite

If you want something simple and efficient, look no further than Meritline. This is an extremely easy-to-use tool that gets the job done. You don’t have to install it. Just download and launch it and you are good to go.

Since it is simple and resource-friendly, it doesn’t offer as many features as some other programs. It contains a few templates and a very small library of images and fonts. It focuses on getting the job done rather than sparking your creativity.

You can add some of your images, but you must manually resize them beforehand. There are no pre-defined text boxes so you will have to drag your text boxes around until they fit.

Also, the program was built for Windows 2000 and XP, so you should first adjust the compatibility settings of the file before you run it.

Disketch CD Label Maker

Disketch CD Label Maker

Disketch CD label maker comes with all the important features expected of a good label designer. First, you have to pick one of the two basic formats – CD or DVD. Then, you can add images in different layers which you can then move around and rearrange.

The program offers a wide range of fonts, and you can resize, move, and format your text. It can generate track lists from metadata and also quickly create a file list if you are burning a data disc.

When printing a label, you can manually adjust the printing position on the page. If you don’t have a printer, you can export the files to PDF and send them to a print store.

The software is compatible with Windows from XP to 10. It also works on 64-bit Windows and Mac OS X 10.5 and above. The software is completely free if you download it for personal use.

Know Any Other?

People are not burning discs as often as before. But hey, that only makes it so much cooler to burn your own discs, right? If you know of any other similar tools, don’t forget to share them in the comments.

I bought Disktech burn software, and had a system crash. When I finally reinstalled my system again, Disktech refuses to acknowledge the code I paid for, and will not let me use it unless I pay again.
Bruce Alan Garber says:
PLEASE…DO NOT DOWNLOAD DISKTECH SOFTWARE. You can print your first CD label for free but after that, Disktech wants you to pay for more usage. Not worth the money.
William A Cronin says:
JUST WORKED WITH THE FREE VERSION OF DISKTECH AND BEFORE I FINISHED MY FIRST LABEL ENDED THE ‘ TRIAL VERSION’ . NOW ASKS FOR PAY UP. FREE IS NOT FREE.
Lee Schelin says:
I found Disketch clumsy, images not compatible with popular software like Photoshop or Paintshop Pro. I use full-face CDs and they are not easy find in Disketch

My career as a project manager has given me plenty of time to get familiar with the full Microsoft suite, as well as a host of other tools, all of which I write about online.
