Google Pixel And Pixel XL Slow Charging (Solved)

Picture this, if you will. You have a Google Pixel or a Pixel XL. You take it everywhere with you. You’re going out for a night on the town, but your phone’s battery is only at 33%. You plug it in to charge, of course. It should have plenty of time. But when it comes time for you to leave, you unplug your phone and it’s still nowhere near fully charged.

The Google Pixel and Pixel XL charging slowly seems like a common issue for those that own one of these smartphones from Google. Some of the problems noticed on the Pixel and Pixel XL include its occasional bouts of slow charging, the Pixel and Pixel XL not turning on after charging, and the Pixel and Pixel XL grey battery problem. Below, we’ll get into some of the solutions that you can use to fix your Google Pixel and Pixel XL charging slowly, since that is bound to start causing you a headache.

How To Fix Google Pixel and Pixel XL Slow Charging Problem
Before you start trying to fix any problems with your phone, the first thing you should do is make sure that it is actually a problem with the phone, rather than the USB cable. Testing this out is simple. If you test a different device with the same USB cable and it behaves as you would expect it to, then the problem is with your phone. Or if you plug your Pixel or Pixel XL in with a different USB cable and the charging problem is still an issue, then it’s a problem with the phone. There are a few ways to manually fix this issue. The following are a couple different methods you can try to alleviate the slow charging problem on Google Pixel and Pixel XL.

Close Background Applications
A common reason that the Google Pixel and Pixel XL slow charging problem happens is because of the apps that keep running on the background. The following steps will close any such apps:

  1. Hold the “Home” button and release it when you see the recently used apps screen
  2. On the task manager section, select “End all applications”
  3. At the top of the screen is a “RAM” option; select it and clear memory

These steps will close all the apps that are running in the background when the phone is charging, which could be slowing down the charging process.

Uninstall Third Party Apps
If the above method hasn’t worked, the reason that the Google Pixel and Pixel XL is charging slowly could be because of a software bug. The best solution would be to uninstall all third party software to see if the charging issue is fixed on the Pixel and Pixel XL.

To uninstall third party apps, the Pixel and Pixel XL needs to go into “Safe Mode.” Then you can uninstall third party apps that may be creating the slow charging problem on Google Pixel and Pixel XL. To turn on the safe mode, first turn off your phone and then hold the power button. When you see “Google Pixel and Pixel XL” on the screen, release the power button and hold the volume down button. Keep on holding the button until the phone restarts. Once the message “safe mode” appears at the bottom of the screen, release the button.

From there, third party apps can be uninstalled by going to Menu> Settings> More> Application manager> Downloaded. Once you get to this point, select the application you want to uninstall, select the option to uninstall, and hit “OK.” Do this for however many apps you need to uninstall. When you’re done, you can turn off safe mode by pressing and holding the power button and restarting the Pixel or Pixel XL.
