How To Background App Refresh On Galaxy S8 And Galaxy S8 Plus

There must be a lot of third-party apps running on your Samsung Galaxy S8 smartphone. Many of them might as well require access to some background data from the wireless carrier. If you’re planning to tweak these settings, you must know that you can always enable or disable the background data either for all the apps or only for some of them on Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8 Plus. Let’s see what this means.

To enable/disable background data on Galaxy S8 only for specific apps…

  1. Go to the Home screen;
  2. Tap on Apps;
  3. Open the Settings;
  4. Select the Data Usage option;
  5. Scroll down through the list of apps until you find the one you’re planning to edit;
  6. Select that app and scroll for the option labeled as Restrict Background Data;
  7. Tap on its toggle to switch it to On (if you want to enable it) or Off (if you want to disable it).

To enable/disable background data on Galaxy S8 for all the apps…

  1. Again, head to the Home screen;
  2. Access the Apps folder;
  3. Open the Settings app;
  4. Go to Data Usage;
  5. Select the More option from the upper-right corner of the screen;
  6. Look for the option labeled as Restrict Background Data and select it.

By doing so, you have just prevented all the background data from being used. The moment when you decide to re-enable this feature, you just need to get back here. This time, however, when you tap on the option labeled as More, instead of the “Restrict Background Data” menu you will see the option Turn Off Restrict Background Data – select it if you’re determined to terminate the restriction.

As a final note on this chapter, even when you have restricted the background data through any of the methods presented within this article, the apps running on Samsung Galaxy S8 or Galaxy S8 Plus should still be able to use your wireless connection in the background.
