How To Check Data Usage On Galaxy S8 And Galaxy S8 Plus

If you use a Samsung Galaxy S8 or Galaxy S8 Plus, the Internet goes without saying with it. But if it mostly goes on mobile data instead of wireless, you really need to learn your control options. The Data Usage section is the place from where you can do all that: check status and set up limits, with warnings included when you’re about to reach a data limit.
The purpose, of course, is to help you get a better view of how you’re using your tiered data plan – having unlimited data plans is no longer such common nowadays – and, even more importantly, to prevent you from exceeding the carrier’s service and end up being overcharged for it.
If you only have around 2GB of data, you will want to keep a close eye on it. Data Usage is the perfect instrument for doing so and, even though it may not be extremely accurate or provide you feedback in perfect real-time, it is still extremely reliable and safe to use.
As you are about to discover, it’s also very simple and intuitive, letting you set up mobile data limits, providing you with usage reminders when you’re getting close to it, and even completely shutting off your mobile data the moment you have reached a previously set limit.
Here is what you should probably know about it.

How to access the Data Usage center
Data Usage is actually a menu entry and, depending on whether you’re using a Samsung Galaxy S8, a Samsung Galaxy S8 Plus, or any other device, the steps for getting to it may be slightly different.
Let’s just assume you’re looking at a Galaxy S8 taken from AT&T. You should have the Data Usage icon right on the Quick Settings column. If not, just:

  1. Access the general Settings of the device;
  2. Tap on Connections;
  3. Select Data Usage.

What can you find within the Data Usage menu
From the first page of this menu section, you will be introduced to a series of relevant information regarding your traffic usage. Facebook, YouTube, even Google Chrome, Play Store and many of the common video streaming apps (Sling TV, WatchESPN etc.) are most likely to show up in there as they are the biggest internet data consumers.

NoteDon’t treat this section lightly, have a good look at it and make sure you have no rogue app in there, taking you more data than it should!

Aside from these stats, you will also have a special graph to set up your monthly cycle of data usage.

How to set up Data Usage limits
This is the most important thing that you can do in here and, luckily, the process is pretty straightforward. You will see a simple bar graph, an area where you can adjust this data usage cycle for an entire month. Use the sliders to move up the limit and set the two of them – the maximum allowed limit and the data usage reminder, the threshold that should notify you on getting close to the maximum limit.
Suffices to tap on the Set Mobile Data Limit tab and introduce the limit that will make your Galaxy S8 or Galaxy S8 Plus automatically turn off your 4G LTE the moment it was reached.

Note – if you have a higher data plan than the maximum limit you are currently seeing on the screen, just drag that bar even higher. Nevertheless, with a 10 GB plan, for instance, you can set the limit to 5 GB and rest assured, if you have a Wi-Fi at hand, you’ll never reach the limit at all.

Now you know pretty much everything on controlling data limits with your Samsung Galaxy S8 or Galaxy S8 Plus. Stop by this section every now and then and monitor what’s happening to your mobile data plan.
