What Does the Flashing Eye Icon Mean on My Huawei P9 And How Do I Turn It Off?

If you own a Huawei P9 smartphone, it’s likely that you’ve noticed the flashing eye icon in the status bar of your phone’s display. What does this mean? Is it a sign that the CIA has their eye on you? A warning about the importance of regular eye exams? Nothing that sinister or medical, fortunately. The flashing eye icon indicates that your phone has “Smart Stay” functionality turned on.

Smart Stay means that your phone can tell whether someone is looking at the display. By checking the camera periodically and looking for human eyes and faces, Smart Stay can detect if the screen is actually being watched. If nobody is watching the screen, Smart Stay will dim the screen and save battery life.

You may want to turn this functionality off, if you don’t like the idea of your phone watching your face for sufficient attentiveness. The procedure for doing so is very simple.

How To Enable/Disable Top Bar Icon Flashing Eye

1. Turn on the Huawei P9.
2. From the Home screen, select the App menu.
3. Select Settings.
4. Tap on “Display.”
5. Browse and select “Smart Stay.”
6. Here you can either enable or disable the flashing eye icon.
