How To Listen to an Audio Bible Offline
There are many different versions of the Bible available online in both text and audio format, so that you can read or listen to the Bible while online. However, there are times when you might want to listen to the Bible while you are offline and don’t have a WiFi or Internet connection. Fortunately, there are several ways to do that. In this article, I’ll show you a few different ways that you can get offline access to an audio Bible.
The easiest way to access an audio Bible is to download one to your device in advance and listen to it using the default media player on your device. With hundreds of different versions of the Bible available as free downloads, you have complete freedom to enjoy your faith your way. Here are a few options you might like to try.
Listen to an audio Bible offline
Here are some websites that offer free downloads of the bible. Download them directly to your device or to your computer.
Bible.is
Bible.is is a tech savvy website that offers access to faith text for download or through the Bible.is app. For the purposes of this post, we are more interested in downloading the various bibles and listening to them offline, but the app is supposed to be very good too.
On the downloads page, select the language, the Bible version (there are 20 or so versions available), hand over some social media data or an email address and download. The files arrive as MP3 which is usable by both Android and Apple devices. Load it onto your device and either double tap so the audio player picks it up or point your audio player to it and play.
MP3bible.ca
MP3bible.ca offers a huge range of chapters and verses of The King James Bible for download. The main download page offers the entire audio book in four files or individual books with commentaries. There are also notes and outlines offered by the website’s resident expert.
The process is the same as Bible.is except you will need to download to your computer and transfer to your mobile device. Download the zipped files you require to your computer. Extract the file using your decompression tool and copy the extracted MP3 files to your mobile device.
The International Bible Society
The International Bible Society also offers New Testament bibles for download. This site also offers the entire Bible in one download or different books as their own download. The full book is 654MB and comes as a zip file. As above, download to your computer and extract the file. Copy the MP3 across to your mobile device for offline listening.
Academy of Ancient Languages
The Academy of Ancient Languages offers a free MP3 copy of the Hebrew and Greek Audio Bibles for scholars or those who want to learn or develop skills in ancient languages. Available in separate sections, the book is available for download from the link.
Bible
Bible is an Android and Apple app that works best with a network connection but also enables you to download various versions of the bible as an audio book. With over 1,400 versions in over 1,000 languages, this app has to be one of the largest repositories of faith material anywhere. While it isn’t strictly offline, it does offer downloads of the bible.
Given that it also offers access to such a rich variety of material, it would have been remiss of me not to include it.
How to extract a Bible audio book and copy it to your mobile device
Many of these Bible audio books download as zip files. These are compressed files that save storage space on the web server and download faster than the original MP3. You cannot play the zip file right away, you have to extract it first and then play it.
Here’s how:
- Download the zip file to your computer.
- If you use Windows, highlight the file and right click. Select Extract here if the option appears or Open with… and select Winzip or WinRAR. Download 7zip if you don’t have either of those installed as it is free.
- If you use a Mac, you just need to double click the zip file for it to automatically be extracted. The files will be deposited in the same location as the zip file.
- Connect your mobile device to your computer using a USB cable.
- Wait for your computer to recognize your device.
- Open your device on the computer and navigate to the Music folder.
- Open another window and find the MP3 file you just extracted.
- Drag the MP3 file from one window into the other. The computer will take care of the rest.
Once loaded onto your mobile device, you just need to locate the file on the device and either select it to play or open your media player and point it to the MP3.
