How To Send a Message on Kickstarter

Kickstarter is the number one website that turns ideas into reality. We are not going to go into the details of how it works, but we are going to explain how you can contact your campaign’s backers at any time.

These people are spending money on your ideas, so giving them more information and details can make a huge difference in the outcome of your campaign. If you still don’t know how to send a message on Kickstarter, keep reading.

Contacting Backers on Kickstarter

Before we get into the details, if you have a Kickstarter campaign going on, there are a few different ways to contact your backers. There is no way to chat with other campaign owners; you can only talk to people who are backing your project. Your options include:

Kickstarter

  1. Sending messages to individual backers
  2. Sending group messages to all backers
  3. Posting updates to your backers
  4. Posting updates that are visible to all visitors

Sending Messages to Campaign Backers

If you visit the Backer Report page to check reward levels, you will see that there are two ways to reach out to your backers. Staying in touch with them is critical if you want your project to make it. All kinds of changes happen while a fundraising campaign is active, so always make time to keep your backers up to date with the latest happenings.

Messaging Individual Backers

When you open your messages on Kickstarter, you will see a list of backers with a mail icon next to each one of them. You can write your message with the latest project updates, your questions, and other information you want a specific backer to know. Hit “Send Message” when you are done.

Message Backers in a Reward Tier

If you take a look at the top of your campaign report, you will see a “Message All” link. It allows you to message all backers who share the same reward tier. You should make use of this tool when your campaigns are active because you can negotiate better conditions with backers by offering them perks in a certain tier.

Some tools can’t be used while your campaign is active. You can see grayed-out buttons like Create a Survey and Generate Your Report. Once your campaigns are finished, the tools will become available, and they are commonly used to gather email and mailing addresses for product delivery.

Posting Updates to Your Kickstarter Campaigns

Kickstarter came a long way since it was first introduced. One of the first things that were updated was communication. Though it wasn’t initially available, you can post updates and get your messages to all backers in bulk, rather than contacting each one separately. You can also post project updates that are available for all to see, not only backers.

Every update you post will appear at the top of your campaign’s page. Along with the text, you can also post images, videos, and other media. Everyone who visits your campaign will be able to click on Updates and see all of the public updates made thus far.

The Update tool is excellent when you want to:

  1. Countdown the days until the campaign ends
  2. Update your backers on the progress made thus far
  3. Answer backers’ questions
  4. Share media files related to your project

Here is what you have to do if you want to post an update:

  1. Click on the “Post Update” option at the top of the project page.
  2. Add a title in the Title area.
  3. Add the message in the Body area. You can use many different formatting tools to express yourself easier.
  4. Click on any of the Media Upload icons at the bottom of the page to add a photo, video, or audio file.
  5. Select who will be able to see the update. You can choose between Backers Only or Anyone.
  6. Click the “Preview Update” button to see how the post will looks like once you publish it. Proofread everything twice.
  7. When you’re happy with the post, click the “Publish” button and your backers will get a notification.
