How to View Your Arlo Camera on the Echo Show

With its line of smart security cameras, Arlo lets you see everything in or around your house. These cameras are waterproof, wireless, and capable of high definition video. You can access their live feed on a computer, tablet, or smartphone.

Following today’s smart home trends, Arlo also added support for Amazon’s Alexa assistant. This feature allows you to control the cameras with voice commands and watch the live feed on your Echo Show.

Connecting Arlo cameras to your Echo Show takes three steps:

  1. Enable the Arlo skill in the Alexa app.
  2. Set up all your Arlo cameras to work with Alexa.
  3. Control them through your Echo Show.

Before you proceed, please make sure that you have the Alexa app installed on your smartphone or tablet. Also turn on your Arlo cameras and connect them to Wi-Fi.

Our Recommendation

1. Enabling Arlo Alexa Skill

Although you can use your Echo Show for this, it’s more convenient to work on the Alexa app on your smartphone or tablet.

You can also use voice commands to do this. Just make sure that the Amazon Alexa app is running in the background of your smart device.

  1. Say “Alexa, enable Arlo skill.”
  2. The Alexa app will open, showing the login screen for your Arlo account.
  3. Enter the username and password you have previously created on the Arlo website.
  4. You’ll receive a confirmation about a successful connection between your Arlo account and the Alexa app.

Of course, you can also do this manually through the Alexa app, with your fingers in place of voice commands.

  1. Open the Alexa app.
  2. On the home screen, tap on the three lines in the upper left corner to open the app’s menu.
  3. Tap “Skills & Games”.
  4. Tap the “Your Skills” tab.
  5. Tap the search icon in the upper right corner and type in “Arlo”.
  6. Tap the Arlo icon from the results list.
  7. Tap “Enable to Use”.
  8. Log in to your Arlo account.
  9. If everything is ok, you will see the notification “Arlo has been successfully linked”.

Now that you have enabled this skill, it’s time to let Alexa find all your Arlo cameras.

2. Connecting Arlo Cameras

Continuing on from the previous section:

  1. Tap “Done” in the upper left corner of the screen.
  2. The “Discover Devices” menu should pop up.
  3. Tap the “Discover Devices” button in the lower right corner and wait for Alexa to complete the search.
  4. Once the search is done, Alexa will show the number of Arlo devices found.
  5. Tap “Choose Device”.
  6. You should see the names of your Arlo cameras, as you previously defined them in the Arlo app.
  7. Tap one of the cameras and then “Set Up Device”. Here you can rename the camera if you’d like to specify the particular Arlo camera. Also, you can add it to an existing Alexa group, like Back Yard, Living Room, etc.
  8. Repeat this for each Arlo camera and you’re done.

If you want to change these settings at any time, follow the next few steps.

  1. Go to the home screen of your Alexa app.
  2. Scroll the top menu to the right and tap “All Devices”.
  3. You will see your Arlo cameras in the list, so tap the one you want to edit.
  4. The Settings menu will appear.
  5. Here you can see the basic information about the camera, complete with the following options: rename, delete, enable/disable.

With all the cameras connected and properly named, it’s time to control them through your Echo Show.

3. Arlo on Echo Show

Since you have already set up your Arlo cameras for use with Alexa, using them through the Echo Show is quite simple. For this example, let’s suppose you have an Arlo camera installed on your front door, which you’ve named “Arlo Front Door”.

Turn on your Echo Show and say “Alexa, show me Arlo Front Door”. In a couple of seconds, the live feed from your front door Arlo camera will appear on the Echo Show.

And that’s it! Now you can switch between cameras, just say the right name at the end.

To stop the live feed and return to the Echo Show home screen, use one of these commands:

  1. “Alexa, stop.”
  2. “Alexa, hide <camera name>.”
  3. “Alexa, go home.”

As with all electronic equipment, it’s important to know which devices are compatible with each other.
