How to Watch Someone on Waze
Waze is a free navigation app that lets friends share their locations. But what if you’ve got a great weekend brunch planned and not everyone knows where they’re going? Is there a way to watch someone on Waze to make sure they’re headed in the right direction?
In this article, we’ll tell you everything you need to know to ensure that you always meet at the right time and place.
How to Follow People
Waze lets you share your location with friends so you know where they are and when they’ll arrive. To enable this, Waze offers three options: Share drive, send ETA, or Send Location.
Share Drive
Following your friend’s drive is quite simple on Waze, but it requires access to their Waze route or location. Here’s how they can share it with you:
- Open the Waze app.
- Use the search bar to find you as a contact.
- Press option Share drive.
This way, you can see your friends on a real-time map, where they’re headed, and any traffic problems they may encounter along their route.
Send ETA
If they forgot to share their drive with you and they’re already stuck in traffic, they can quickly send you their ETA. This is how it’s done:
- Open their route on the Waze app.
- Tap the ETA bar on the bottom of the screen.
- Find you in the contacts list.
- Tap Share drive.
Send Location
Your friend’s locations are shareable through Waze if they follow these few steps:
- Opens the search box.
- Find three dots next to the address from history or one of the favorite ones.
- Tap Send Location.
Now you can follow them as they navigate the city’s traffic and know their exact time of arrival.
How to See a Shared Drive
When your contacts share their drives with you, you’ll receive notifications where you can tap View drive. Once you do so, you’re allowing Waze to send you push notifications about the drive and see your contact’s photo and name on the map.
If you close the shared drive map, you can easily access it through a drive icon in the top-right part of the screen. That icon will be there until the drive ends, and then it will disappear.
How to Know If Your Friends Are Watching You on Waze
Every time we share our drive or location, our contact gets a message that contains a link. When they click on it and tap View, you’ll get a notification in Waze that they now have access to your route.
It may be that your friends can’t find the link you shared. That’s why it’s better to agree on the app through which you’ll be sharing locations, in case they don’t use Waze.
Communication with Friends on Waze
Sending Messages to Friends on Waze is simple if you don’t want to switch apps while driving. There’s also an option to poke them with Beep Beep’s to encourage them to drive slower.
- Tap Menu and then tap your name for My Waze.
- Tap My friends.
- Scroll and find a friend you’d like to connect with.
- Tap Message or Beep Beep.
- Write your message and Send.
What Else Waze Brings to the Table?
Advanced Navigation
Waze maps might look like they’re ordinary, yet once you start using them you’ll come across more unique features.

Also, they’re taking cars off the road, making people will spend less gas and less money while commuting.
Waze Moods
Waze introduced Moods to reflect how drivers feel while driving, waiting, looking for a parking spot, or experiencing some difficulties. Users can choose a mood for all other drivers to see while they’re in traffic.
Waze Music
If you like to listen to music as you navigate through the streets, Waze audio controls automatically connect you with many supported audio apps like Deezer, YouTube Music, iHeart Radio, and Spotify.
